The NS-Documentation Centre's library

Our library is a public reference library that is free to use. It contains approx. 28,400 volumes (as of 2024). In addition to current publications and magazines covering both general and Cologne's NS history, we also collect exam papers, contemporary newspapers, books, brochures and newsletters. Standard works covering other subjects such as memorial sites, didactics, remembrance culture and right-wing extremism are also available. Numerous newspapers, including rare surviving newspapers from the NS era, are available on microfilm. It is not possible to take items out on loan, but you can make copies or scans. Our library is a member of the Working Group of Memorial Libraries.

You can search our collections using our own catalogue as well as the Cologne libraries’ catalogue (Kölnbib) and the the Working Group of Memorial Libraries’catalogue. Large parts of the collection are available on open access in the reading room. The remaining items can be requested for viewing at short notice. You can study the selected material in peace and quiet in the library. Our staff will be happy to help you with your research and refer you to other sources and search options as necessary. You are also welcome to contact us before your visit.
