The park with an area of 40,000 sq m is an oasis of tranquility and contemplation, a venue that offers direct experience of contemporary sculpture amid the surrounding urban infrastructure. It lies in a triangle between Zoobrücke, Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer and Riehler Straße. At the present time there are sculptures on display by artists ranging from Anish Kapoor to Heimo Zobernig.
The park was created in 1997 on the private initiative of the collector couple Michael and Eleonore Stoffel and has received considerable recognition both nationally and internationally in the art scene and among a wider public. In the form of temporary exhibitions, a wide range of modern contemporary outdoor sculptures are presented, whose reputation has been strengthened by the exhibition series KölnSkulptur and accompanying catalogues.
Today the Stiftung Skulpturenpark Köln founded after the deaths of the collector couple has set itself the task securing the future of the sculpture park as an institution and of preserving it as a place of artistic dialogue and reflection in a unique symbiosis of nature and art.
