The park with an area of 40,000 sq m is an oasis of tranquility and contemplation, a venue that offers direct experience of contemporary sculpture amid the surrounding urban infrastructure. It lies in a triangle between Zoobrücke, Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer and Riehler Straße. At the present time there are sculptures on display by artists ranging from Anish Kapoor to Heimo Zobernig.
The park was created in 1997 on the private initiative of Michael and Eleonore Stoffel and has received considerable recognition both nationally and internationally in the art scene and among a wider public. A wide spectrum of modern contemporary outdoor sculpture is presented in the form of changing exhibitions, whose reputation was underpinned by 7 exhibitions between 1997 and 2013 with accompanying catalogues.
Today the charitable foundation Skulpturenpark Köln founded after the deaths of the collector couple has set itself the task securing the future of the sculpture park as an institution and of preserving it as a place of artistic dialogue and reflection in a unique symbiosis of nature and art.
