Unter dem Titel „Licht in dunklen Zeiten“ werden im Museum Schnütgen mittelalterliche Glasmalereien aus dem Khanenko National Museum in Kyjiw im Dialog mit Werken aus dem Museum Schnütgen gezeigt. Erfahren Sie mehr über die zum erstmal außerhalb Kyjiws gezeigten Kunstwerke und die Situation des Museums. Die Führung gibt in deutscher und ukrainischer Sprache einen Einblick in die Technik und Themenwelt der mittelalterlichen Glasmalerei. Begrenzte Teilnehmer*innenzahl. Sie erhalten am Tag der Führung an der Kasse einen Aufkleber, der zur Teilnahme an der Führung berechtigt.

What happened at the EL-DE-House?

Discover the extraordinary history of this building! Originally planned to be a business house, it was turned into the Gestapo-headquarter of Cologne. The cellar with the ten former cells of the Gestapo prison reminds visitors of the victims and terror during this time. More than 1800 wall inscriptions by prisoners bear witness to torture and murder. The exhibition »Cologne under National Socialism« gives you an insight into everyday life in Cologne during the years 1933 to 1945 as well as into the history of the EL-DE-House.

Registration is recommended due to restricted attendance. You can ask for participation at the counter right before the guided tour.

Ancestry in Motion: Indigenous Identity, the City, and Survival

Continuity is both cultural and environmental, sustained through ongoing care for land and identity alike. This Artist Talk explores Indigenous knowledge as lived practice — active in the present and shaping the future. Here, ancestry is not memory alone, but a force carried through the body and into contemporary space. Accompanying the talk, Vanessa Ramos Velasquez will present the performance ‘In Relation With…’, developed as a site-specific work for the RJM.

With contributions by Olinda Silvano, Vanessa Ramos-Velasquez, and Alfredo Villar, whose practices engage contemporary Amazonian art in critical dialogue with Indigenous perspectives.

Vorfahren in Bewegung: Indigene Identität, die Stadt und das Überleben

Kontinuität ist sowohl kultureller als auch ökologischer Natur und wird durch die fortwährende Pflege des Landes und der Identität aufrechterhalten. Das Künstlergespräch untersucht indigenes Wissen als gelebte Praxis, die aktiv in der Gegenwart stattfindet und die Zukunft prägt. Hier ist Abstammung nicht nur Erinnerung, sondern eine Kraft, die durch den Körper und in den zeitgenössischen Raum getragen wird. Begleitend zum Talk zeigt Vanessa Ramos Velasquez die Performance „In Relation With…“, die speziell für das Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum als ortsspezifische Arbeit entwickelt wurde.

In this way, historical events and objects are related in an unusual way, revealing surprising parallels.

This guided tour provides an overview of the new permanent exhibition of the Cologne City Museum, which uses eight emotional questions to relate Cologne's past and present.

Cologne's Historic City Hall: On the Trail of Power, History and Architecture

Discover the fascinating history and magnificent rooms of Cologne's Historic Town Hall! Immerse yourself in the history of power of the free imperial city of Cologne, symbolized by this imposing building. As the "House of the Citizens", the Town Hall has been documented in the former Jewish Quarter since the 12th century. The impressive "Hansa Hall" (Hansasaal), built around 1330, and the exquisite "Senate Hall" (Senatssaal), which was added between 1404 and 1414 with the Council Tower (Ratsturm), tell of bygone eras and political significance. Despite severe war damage, the Town Hall was rebuilt true to the original and reopened on August 14, 1972.

¡El futuro es indígena! (Führung in spanischer Sprache)

«El futuro es indígena» es un llamado a repensar el mundo desde una fuerza que nunca ha desaparecido. Afirma que el conocimiento que necesitamos para el futuro ya existe: en las formas indígenas de vivir, pensar y crear, que hasta hoy sostienen nuestro planeta.

Curada por Alfredo Villar, la intervención que lleva ese nombre reúne voces artísticas de toda la región amazónica —de la selva y de la ciudad— que transforman el arte, el color, la música y la imagen en expresiones de resiliencia y renovación. Sus obras, que van desde la fotografía y el cine hasta la pintura, los carteles y la música, abordan la justicia climática, las identidades indígenas urbanas y saberes transmitidos a lo largo de generaciones.

Memorial de la prisión de la Gestapo y exposición permanente "Colonia bajo el nacionalsocialismo"

La casa EL-DE fue la sede de la Gestapo de Colonia entre 1935 y 1945. Hoy en día, la antigua prisión, con más de 1800 inscripciones en sus diez celdas, recuerda el sufrimiento de los prisioneros. La exposición permanente en las antiguas oficinas de la Gestapo muestra la historia de Colonia durante el nacionalsocialismo.

En el marco de este evento, obtendrá una visión general de la historia de la casa y del memorial. Además, se explicarán aspectos seleccionados de la historia de la ciudad durante el nacionalsocialismo. 

Debido al número limitado de participantes, recomendamos inscribirse con anticipación. Si aún quedan plazas libres, se le informará poco antes en el mostrador de información del museo.

As the "House of the Citizens", the Town Hall has been documented in the former Jewish Quarter since the 12th century. The impressive "Hansa Hall" (Hansasaal), built around 1330, and the exquisite "Senate Hall" (Senatssaal), which was added between 1404 and 1414 with the Council Tower (Ratsturm), tell of bygone eras and political significance. Despite severe war damage, the Town Hall was rebuilt true to the original and reopened on August 14, 1972.

Stolpersteine commemorating Jewish families from Cologne

Over the past 25 years, the artist Gunter Demnig has installed almost 3000 »Stolpersteine« in Cologne to commemorate victims of the Nazi persecution in front of their last voluntarily chosen places of residence. Many of these small memorial plaques on the pavement were initiated by descendants of Jewish families from Cologne, who want their ancestors to be remembered at their former homes.
The panel discussion will bring together descendants who recently had stones installed for family members, sponsors of stones and those responsible for organising the installation to share the family’s history behind the stones and discuss their relevance for both relatives and public remembrance.

More than 1800 wall inscriptions by prisoners bear witness to torture and murder. The exhibition »Cologne under National Socialism« gives you an insight into everyday life in Cologne during the years 1933 to 1945 as well as into the history of the EL-DE-House.

You can look forward to an innovative permanent exhibition that tells the history of the city of Cologne in a completely new way, with all its facets, contradictions and different perspectives! The focus is on emotions that we all can relate to! The new permanent exhibition asks eight questions not only addressing the past and the present of the city of Cologne, but also her visitors. In this way, historical events and objects are related in an unusual way, revealing surprising parallels.

This guided tour provides an overview of the new permanent exhibition of the Cologne City Museum, which uses eight emotional questions to relate Cologne's past and present.

Workshop für Jung und Alt: Schrumpfende Kunst – Mini-Kunstwerke inspiriert von islamischer Ornamentkunst

Gemeinsam schauen wir uns bunte Muster und Blumenformen aus der islamischen Ornamentkunst im Museum an. Davon inspiriert entwerfen Kinder und Erwachsene zusammen ein eigenes Motiv auf einer speziellen Folie. Danach passiert etwas Spannendes: Im Ofen schrumpft die Folie – und euer Bild verwandelt sich in ein kleines Schmuckstück.

Ob Anhänger für den Schlüsselbund oder eine Brosche – ihr entscheidest selbst, was aus eurem Kunstwerk wird. Klein, bunt und einzigartig – zum Behalten oder Verschenken.

Für Kinder und einen begleitenden Erwachsenen. Der Workshop findet in deutscher Sprache statt, Fragen und Hilfestellung in türkischer Sprache sind möglich.

Für die Kind fällt eine Workshopgebühr an. Die Erwachsenen zahlen nur den Eintritt in die Dauerausstellung.

Cologne's Historic City Hall: On the Trail of Power, History and Architecture

Discover the fascinating history and magnificent rooms of Cologne's Historic Town Hall! Immerse yourself in the history of power of the free imperial city of Cologne, symbolized by this imposing building. As the "House of the Citizens", the Town Hall has been documented in the former Jewish Quarter since the 12th century. The impressive "Hansa Hall" (Hansasaal), built around 1330, and the exquisite "Senate Hall" (Senatssaal), which was added between 1404 and 1414 with the Council Tower (Ratsturm), tell of bygone eras and political significance. Despite severe war damage, the Town Hall was rebuilt true to the original and reopened on August 14, 1972.
